As Director of sLab, Greg is responsible for fostering and shaping the lab's objectives, research program, and impacts. Greg is also convener of sLab's Media Futures Research Group.
Greg Van Alstyne (@gregvan) is a designer, teacher, researcher and futurist with more than twenty-five years practice in strategic communications and experience design, creative concept development, writing, visualization, art direction, branding, publication design, and design management. His strengths include team leadership, presentation, process facilitation, program development, critique, and evaluation. Prior to his OCAD appointments Greg held positions in media, design and education settings including founder of the Department of New Media at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and inaugural Director of the Institute without Boundaries (IwB). Among his many research initiatives, Greg was PI for the SSHRC-funded, Southern Ontario regional panel in Imagining Canada's Future; project leader for the OMDC-funded project, 2020 Media Futures; co-investigator in Economic Futures for Ontario 2032 (EFO); and is currently leading the Visualizing Emergence data visualization project, with support from CIVDDD & NCE-GRAND.
