Innovation Strategist, Great-West Life Assurance Company
Consultant, Analytical Engine Interactive
Melissa is an experienced strategist, communicator, and facilitator, but is really a designer at heart. Her expertise draws from a balanced practice of using strategic foresight and human-centered design methods, and an intuitive ability to understand ecosystems to reimagine and create sustainable, useful services for people. As a strategist working for the Innovation Centre at Great-West Life, she facilitates workshops to train staff on innovative mindsets and tools, conducts primary research and analysis to inform the design of new products and services for the company, and leads experiments to prototype and test new ideas with end-users and customers. For almost 10 years, she worked in the public sector as a strategic communications advisor, and spent much of her career introducing innovative methods to policy makers in order to provide more meaningful engagement experiences and better program outcomes for citizens.
Melissa’s interested in investigating how Benefits Corporations (B Corps) and similar social impact-minded organizations were established in the United States and elsewhere, and what mechanisms at the governance level might incentivize or enable more startups and ventures in Canada that pursue triple-bottom-line outcomes.
